Start PHP function without reloading entire page

I want to add feature to my website that that allow user use coupon in form. I need to start a PHP function before sending data from form(which sends these data to another page). I can't reload entire page to do it. I can't handle with this, how do I do this? I'm playing with this for hours. I use codeigniter.
