I want to replace a return entry in my textarea with

I have a form with a lot of text inputs, date inputs and time inputs, but there is also a textfield... Now, in this textfield nobody can type a "return" because it will simply become a space in the database. I thought about maybe getting the returns to be replaced with the

tag, but after a lot of searching i'm still not any further.

Can someone please tell me if this is a good idea and maybe tell me what i should do or how it works? That would be great!
